Leelanau County resident announces candidacy for 101st House seat.
LEELANAU COUNTY — Democrat Kathy Wiejaczka announced today her candidacy for state representative of the 101st House District. Wiejaczka is a registered nurse and educator who lives in Empire Township.
“Every day I go to work I see families worried about paying the bills for their medical care or students concerned about paying for the higher education they need to get a good job,” Wiejaczka said. “I’ve done everything I can in my current roles to make sure they’re getting the best care and the best school they can get. But I’m running now to do even better for our families by making sure none of them go bankrupt trying to pay medical bills and that all our kids have an educational path to success, no matter their background.”
In addition to her work, Wiejaczka, a resident of Empire Township for 36 years, has raised three children and supported her husband as part of their family-owned construction company.
“Our families can’t get by, let alone get ahead, without good-paying jobs, and the majority of those jobs come from small businesses,” said Wiejaczka. “My husband and I understand how crucial it is for Lansing to support small business growth. We also know that investing in infrastructure projects not only improves our safety, tourism and quality of life, but also creates good-paying jobs. I look forward to going to Lansing to support small businesses and make sure our taxpayer dollars are going toward good quality construction done by well-trained workers.”
The 101st District includes Mason, Manistee, Benzie, and Leelanau counties. Currently, Curt VanderWall (R-Ludington) is representing the district.
